RSS: What Can It Do For Me? Article By Vasrue.com

Have you heard the latest buzz? RSS, short for Really Simple Syndication, is an exciting new way to populate your news website, blog or other Internet service with up-to-the-minute, customized bulletins, broadcasts and information. RSS is also useful for the individual web surfer, collecting all of your favorite sources onto one page with no advertising nuisance. RSS feeds stream fresh titles, content and summaries with links to the original source, so you can find what your looking for - easier.

Using RSS, webmasters give visitors news from various sources without extensive searching, bypassing the original source. Most major media outlets including ABC News, CNN, eWeek, iTunes, Netflix, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Time and The Washington Post, as well as smaller, niche websites and blogs, offer RSS or Atom-based feeds, both similar in nature.

Webmasters can use an aggregator, an application that manages multiple RSS lists, to add an RSS feed to their website and present information within a single view. Content publishers can also make their articles, headlines, announcements, document listings, calendar items, events and other dynamic data available via RSS feed. So more people see your content. Webmasters may use their existing content management system to generate an RSS feed. They can also use self-scraping, feed integrations, third-party scraping or other means. Once the RSS feeds are created, webmasters need to get the word out by promoting it on their own site and elsewhere.

For individuals, RSS means customized news from thousands of sources without pesky ad distractions. Most of the latest web browsers including Internet Explorer 7, Safari, Opera, Firefox and Mozilla support RSS feeds. When you find one you'd like to return to, typically noted by a blue RSS rectangular or orange sound wave icon on your address bar, just bookmark it.

Simplify the way you obtain information, and offer website visitors relevant content for their viewing preferences. Discover the benefits of Really Simple Syndication.
